What type of material is 42CrMo? 42CrMo is a pre-hardened plastic mold steel and ultra-high-strength steel. This steel offers high strength and toughness, good hardenability and dimensional stability, no significant temper brittleness, high fatigue strength and resistance to multiple impacts after quenching and tempering, good low-temperature impact toughness, and high creep strength at elevated temperatures. This steel typically undergoes surface quenching after tempering as its heat treatment plan.

Supply Condition and Delivery Hardness:

42CrMo mold steel bars, plates, round bars, and material modules are supplied in annealed condition, with a delivery hardness of 217 HBW.

Heat Treatment and Quenching Hardness:

42CrMo mold steel preheating temperature 680-700°C, quenching temperature 840-880°C, oil cooling, tempering temperature 580°C, water or oil cooling, hardness 54-60 HRC.
